the bk

i haven't posted on this blog for a while because 1) it's sort of silly and 2) i was in the process of upping my blogger cred/early 20s cliche quotient and moving to brooklyn. so here we are. a wannabe blogger living in brooklyn... haha. on the upside, now that i don't spend most of my time commuting to work/school, i might have some witty banter from which to draw forth bloggy material. keep your fingers crossed!

you, sir, have crossed a line

i knew there was something creepy about that technology that inserted everything you searched into an ebay ad. then i started working on a paper about rape victims.

voila:

yeah yeah, yeah

am i the only person who thought the yeah yeah yeahs were breaking up? after writing a melancholy show your bones review in 2006, convinced it would be my last piece of current yeah yeah yeahs writing, i feel like i've been a bit alarmist. they have a new song on the spiderman 3 soundtrack. and they're playing two free sets tonight in brooklyn for what seems to be, based on the dress code (dark clothes, logoless etc), a video shoot. perhaps they put aside their east coast/west coast zen differences and are working it out...

wishful thinking: less than zero remake

after watching the melodrama-injected 1987 version of Bret Easton Ellis' novel Less Than Zero, ash and I decided that someone needs to do a remake with more 80s nostalgia and camp and less lifetime synth music and crying. we even went to the trouble to recast the movie ourselves, to save the studio time and money and get this project started. here are our picks for the noveau riche:

Clay: boy-next-door looks, flashes of sympathy, bad suits, Shia LeBeouf
Blair: Marisa Cooper-esque cokehead, no parental guidance, Mischa Barton
Julian: drug dealer/junkie, man-whore, puppy dog eyes, Michael Pitt?
Rip: king dealer, pimp, totally creepy, Robert Downey, Jr.

RDJ was my first childhood crush and he wore awesome shoes in the original. Now if only we could cast Ally Sheedy as Clay's mother...

so i love love love erykah badu, purveyor of baduizm, which I am continually considering putting in the "religious views" section of my facebook profile. well ms badu has put out a new song, which you can check out here at music blog gorilla vs bear courtesy of Stones Throw Records. movie review: suspect zero

the best reactions are gut reactions. as such:

TribecaWhat (6:51 p.m.) : so far there have been creepy masks and killing and cut off eyelids and vomit and eerie sketches and naked pictures and bodies in attics and panic attacks and millions of faces drawn without eyes hidden behind wallpaper
AFriend(6:53 p.m.) : eww. turn it off
TribecaWhat (6:54 p.m.) : no, it's just getting good

and we're back!

In my last post in August 06 said i wanted to "try my hand at being a real blogger." Apparently that meant not posting for 9 months. Well after 9 months of talking about things i would post to my blog, i'm posting to my blog. and get ready, it's going to be a triumphant return.

urgent, urgent... emergency!

I think I need to refocus this blog, as it is rarely updated, has some general music posts and not much else. So now it's going to be about the day-to-day dramas of my transitory life. Heartache! Betrayal! Infamy! I promise you none of these things. But instead of this just being a place for me to store links to new bands I like or exhibits I want to see, I want to try my hand at being a real blogger. So hang on people, here we go.

Widgets

Thanks to ashley I am addicted to apple widgets, which I never played with despite the fact that I've had this compy for about a year. So now I can type the name of a song and immediately have it play, and then the lyrics will appear. It is wonderful. And making me way less productive. But I only have two more weeks of free time anyway, so I guess I'll enjoy it!

The other dude from The Postal Service

While searching for employment in NYC, I happened upon the most recent blog from The L about a CD release party tonight for James Figurine, the most recent alias of dntel/postal service musician Jimmy Tamborello. Figurine's myspace page boasts a contribution by Rilo Kiley frontwoman Jenny Lewis, almost guaranteeing my purchase. As for the party, I wish I could go myself, but the job search continues...

ps: lady sov and the streets at webster hall on tuesday night were super. very super.
